Documentary Film: 1946

$12Varsity Cinema, the Affirming Congregations of Greater Des Moines, the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa, and Capital City Pride bring you this documentary in which a gay seminary scholar and a straight activist who are seeking to uncover the origins of the rabid homophobia of the conservative church make a shocking discovery: In 1946 an erroneous translation of the term “homosexual” occurred in an English translation of the Bible and has been weaponized against the LGBTQ+ community ever since.

After the film there will be an optional 30-minute panel discussion with local religious leaders who are actively working to build acceptance of LGBTQ+ people with a message of full welcome and inclusion. The panel will be moderated by Wes Mullins, Executive Director of Capital City Pride.
